This week I was a real city gal and did a lot of exploring! Come join me on my fun journey through New York!
Vintage > New
I am absolutely obsessed with thrift shops and all things vintage especially for furniture/home stuff but also jewelry and accessories. Things were made differently in the past; I feel like the quality of big purchase items like nice jewelry or furniture was so much better in the past. That's why I love going to thrift shops in New York and looking for great deals. There are a few in the city that do a great job curating their inventory so they only carry high quality items. One of the thrift shops I frequent actually supports the NYC Opera, how cool is that?? This week I saw this mirror and I was immediately in love. The details of the frame and the worn give me the coziest but elegant vibes. I left the store still contemplating if I wanted it but then I thought of someone else buying it and that made me sad so I went back with a friend and I bought it on the same day! I'm so excited for it but it's pretty heavy maybe like 50lbs so I have to spend some time properly mounting it on my wall!
I also saw this cute worn leather couch and it was super comfy when I sat on it. It felt worn but still had good support. Sophie gave it a good sniff and she approved! It doesn't really go with the aesthetic of my current place but maybe if I move to a bigger place! We'll hold off on this purchase for now!
I've been dreaming of this sushi
I was trying to get reservations at a sushi place I saw on TikTok but it was fully booked for the next two months! So I went on the resy website and looked for good sushi places that still had some seats open and found a cute place in the West Village that offered two different Omakase experiences. For those who don't know, Omakase is kind of "dealer's choice". It's what the chef currently thinks is freshest and best for the season. The chef makes each piece fresh in front of you and puts it down right in front of you to eat. This is my face while I'm watching the chef make the first piece. So excited!
I didn't take pictures of all the pieces but oh my were they good! This is a fresh shrimp from Japan with a little yuzu and wasabi on top. It was absolutely delightful. I personally can't eat seafood if it's too "fishy" or "ocean-y" LOL but every piece here was so fresh that I loved them all.
This was a medium-fatty tuna and I've forgotten what the green thing on top is but another amazing bite.
We had 17 pieces of individual sushi and at the end I added two more hand rolls that I really enjoyed to make sure I was good and full! I think I love sushi because so many food additives give me headaches but I almost always leave a good sushi meal feeling healthy and happy! So it's often my treat-myself kind of meal!
Brooklyn in the spring
As the weather is warming up, I headed out to Greenpoint in Brooklyn with some friends to check out a new restaurant and to do some shopping as well! I rarely get out there but I had such a good time exploring all the little shops and cafes. The owner of the coffee shop we went to was an immigration lawyer but it was his dream to open a cute cafe in Brooklyn and he did such a good job with the place! It was nice to just get out and explore a new area. Plus I feel like everyone I met in Greenpoint was really nice, a small sample size but still... Maybe I should look into moving there...
We found this cute second hand book store that had a great selection, most books were between $5-$10 which is such a good steal for some of these. The shop itself was really cute too with plants and vintage vibes throughout.
We also went to a bunch of other thrift shops and cafes which I didn't get many photos of but my friend took this photo of me.... I'm not sure what's going on, maybe I was getting ready to strike a pose but we had a long laugh about it after. Just a Peach being goofy on a beautiful day :D
Until next week Peaches, have a blessed and wonderful week ahead. I appreciate all of you and come join stream if you want to chat more about other fun things I did this last few days!
